Information from the School Nurse – Influenza Vaccine
As we approach the flu season, we would like to emphasize the importance of the influenza vaccination for your child’s well-being, ability to attend school, and the health of our school community. Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. To help protect the health and safety of our students, staff, and families, all students are required to receive the flu vaccine. This policy follows public health recommendations to reduce flu outbreaks and keep our school community healthy. Please submit documentation of the flu vaccine to the school nurse.
If you choose not to vaccinate your child for any reason, please contact the school nurse to request an exemption form. The school nurse will provide parents with information regarding the vaccine’s protective benefits. DoDEA only recognizes medical and religious exemptions. Medical exemptions that are temporary require a signature from a physician. Religious exemptions are signed by the parent/guardian/sponsor.
The flu vaccine is now available at Martin Army Community Hospital through The Department of Primary Care. Please contact your child’s primary care clinic for more information.
